Daddy and Jory celebrated the Kentucky Wildcats going to the Final Four in fashionable style!

I was in the pool!!!

Jory enjoys the water (most of the time), but he did not want to wear his swimsuit in Kauai. Or his swim diaper, for that matter.

Fortunately lots of the beaches on Kauai aren't crowded!

Lawai International Center

One day we joined a tour of the Lawai International Center, which we passed every day on our way to Poipu and the beaches. The grounds were beautiful.

Thanks to Uncle Toby for taking so many great pictures!

Diesel Five-0: The Movie

Since Jory is absolutely enchanted by the sight of himself on video, we recorded Diesel Five-0 and Little Jory (what he calls himself) pulling out of the station!

Diesel Five-0

Jory really likes to read informational literature about trains and planes - that is, he loves brochures full of advertisements and schedules. While we were in Kauai, he discovered a pamphlet for the Kilohana Plantation Railway, which I had fortunately discovered before we left the mainland.

One night before he went to bed, I made up a story about a train named Diesel Five-0 who takes a little boy named Jory on a ride to the beach. Jory loved it.

And he wanted to meet Diesel Five-O in person.

So he did.

Twice.

The train takes its passengers on a little loop through an old plantation, which in some senses is still operational today. They grow fruit and raise goats and pigs. Apparently nobody eats the pigs.

Notice Jory's crazy Hawaiian duds. We always hit the local Walmart after de-planing. For some reason, they have great kids clothes.

The plantation also has a great brunch place, which we hit after our last ride on the train!

Turtles, Turtles Everywhere!

Jory loves turtles. Fortunately, Kauai is teeming with tortugas, and we saw lots of them during our trip, both on land and in the water.

This is on our first day:

We also were lucky enough to spot a rare Hawaiian monk seal, just sleeping on the Baby Beach at Poipu:

And here's Uncle Toby scuba diving with yet another turtle:
