Revenge of the baby

This morning we lost power for almost an hour. It was an odd way to start the day.

I thought Jory might enjoy watching Zanzibar chase the laser pointer in the dark ... but Jory turned out to have revenge on his mind. Revenge for all the cat-appropriation of his toys and accessories.

You may need to make your screen a bit brighter to see what's going on in this video.

That's Jory's little paw at the beginning, and Zanzibar's big furry one at the end.

This was actually Jory's second bit of revenge. Two weeks ago I caught him chewing on the catnip mouse, which is possibly the dirtiest thing in our home. Zanzibar was sitting right next to Jory, with this incredibly pained expression on his face. At least Zanzibar didn't slap him.

New accessories!

We've recently purchased a few new items for the cats baby.

First, a new stroller to replace the one KC ran over with the car. No, the baby was not in the stroller at the time. Fortunately the stroller lasted awhile after that, because it takes the car seat, but finally the wheel fell off. Here's the new model, which also takes the car seat:

The stroller's also got a nifty bin underneath, perfect for feline use:

Next, Jory's new space-saving high chair. Feeding him while holding him on our laps just wasn't cutting it any more. Of course Jory loathes being restrained, so you sort of have to stuff him into the chair and jam food in his mouth as fast as possible. Otherwise you get a major freak-out. But here's someone who doesn't need cajoling:

Check out the next post for Jory's revenge!

Me-at pictures

My mother used to like to take "me-at" pictures, which are ... well, about what you'd think. Very specific markers of a place or time. Here are a couple of examples from my childhood (and yes, there's a lot going on in these pictures!):

We took advantage of a trip to see a recent astronomical phenomenon to get a similar picture:

As you can see, Jory was far more interested in eating his sling than viewing the transit of Venus. Oh, well - let's hope 2117 is kinder to 105-year-olds than 2012 is ....

Funny kid

I'm not sure why I find this photo so silly, but I sure do!

We have crawling!

As if things weren't crazy enough in this house, Jory has started crawling! Here's how it looked last week:

What was he so motivated to see? The outlet, of course!

He's more mobile now, but he continues to tuck one of his legs under him when he crawls. So he can get from here (trouble) to there (more trouble), but it's not graceful.

Joke of the day

It's hard to tell what Jory will find funny. And what he finds funny today, he may not find so funny tomorrow.

Last week the joke of the day was the cat playing with a paper ball. Jory's seen it a million times before, but for some reason on that day, it was the funniest thing he had ever seen.

Check out the video!

Beating the early bird

A few weekends ago, Jory was up so early that we beat the farmers to the farmers' market.

We did manage to get some strawberries from one early farmer:

Jory was still making up his mind about strawberries back then (but he's firmly in the pro-berry camp now):

And of course, the morning ended predictably:

Family pictures - Milwaukee

We got a bunch of great photos from our trip out to KC's parents in Milwaukee back in April.

A little man and a horse

A dear friend of ours visited over the holiday, and she invited us down to Watsonville to visit her father's horse ranch. So we dressed Jory up in his cowboy duds (courtesy of her father and his wife) and drove down for Jory's first horse encounter.

The weather was splendid, the horses were friendly, and Jory was generally interested in the goings-on.

Jory was surprisingly ok with giant horse heads nudging him:

There was an unfortunate hand-slurping incident, but Jory emerged with all his fingers (I counted):

All in all, we had a great time!
